The success of surgery for congenital heart defects has resulted in improved survival of most patients into adulthood. However, patients require special care even following successful surgical repair due to the late development of complications related to the progressive remodeling. The process of post-surgical remodeling is highly heterogeneous and patient-specific modeling can improve our understanding from remodeling process and eventually would help decision-making with respect to the follow-up and potential future procedures needed for each patient.
In this project, 3D reconstruction of the heart is analyzed by Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to obtain stress and strain fields at the walls.
